MOSCOW, 6 March, 2003. /RIA Novosti corr. Anna Bobina, Yelena Glushakova/.
- German Ambassador to Moscow Hans Friedrich von Pletz has announced at
a press conference that the referendum on the Chechen constitution will
create a legal basis for a peaceful settlement in the republic.
According to the ambassador, "those people in Russia who are responsible today
for the referendum understand very well that the necessary prerequisites are necessary
in the republic for peace to be established." The senior diplomat said that Russia
and Germany's positions on the given issue "coincide completely." Both Moscow
and
Berlin are confident that a settlement in the republic can only be achieved through
peaceful means.
Webauthor's comment: Apparently this ambassador isn't aware of the fact
that "those people in Russia who are responsible today for the referendum" are
the same who exterminated 15% of the Chechen population and detain in filtration
camps 20,000, where torture, extrajudical executions and killings are a daily
reality. Do his positions "coincide completely" also with these war crimes?
