Russia encouraged by inactivity of the West intends to dismiss (temporarily) the
OSCE Mission in Chechnya. Germany and the United States have already expressed
their anxiety with this respect. The Russian human rights activists, however,
adhere to the opinion that OSCE Mission, especially for the last year and a half,
has
been a decoration in Chechnya.
As our correspondent was told in "Memorial", the presence of western observers
in Chechnya for the last period has not given any results, as the representatives
of those international organizations do not leave the territory of their offices
and limit themselves with collecting the complaints that have never been considered
or reacted on. The West, in the opinion of many Russian defenders of human rights,
is always ready to whine with regard to Chechnya but never do anything more
or less practical. As a matter of fact, according to the Russian human rights
activists, the West has already "betrayed" Chechnya to the benefit of Russia's
geopolitical interests, having got in turn the sphere of influence on the most
area of the former Soviet Union. However, it is not decent for the West to change
the image, and at present certain activity can be observed on their part. The
activity which conceals the genocide of the Chechens and justifies the West before
the future generations of the Europeans and Americans.
P.S. Happy New Year, dear western friends! Is your conscience clear?
