| Chechenpress Statement by parliament of Chechen Republic Ichkeria Last night, on June 21, 2004, blood was shed in Ingushetia. About hundred people were killed. It happened after the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg has yielded to the persuasion of RF not to submit for discussion a question of extreme importance on situation in the occupied Chechen Republic Ichkeria and the Caucasus! The Russian hawks believing that it is possible to subdue the Chechen people's spirit of resistance to evil by force and propaganda, have gone wrong. The Chechen leadership and Chechen people are united in their struggle to drive away the aggressor from our native land! This is the sacred right and does not contradict to the international law and legislation of our State. However, the action of the aggressor - Russian Federation bearing the responsibility for the crimes against humanity before the international community, contradicts to the international law. Eventually, Europe will be compelled to set eyes on the events taking place in Chechnya. We believe in it and make every effort for putting an end to this arbitrariness against the Chechen people in the near future. We call upon all countries of the world, and first of all, the West, to condemn the Kremlin's aggressive policy against Chechnya, directed at the continuation of war all over the Caucasus and long-term destabilization of the situation in the region. We urge the UN and European international organizations PACE, European Parliament and OSCE to establish a special international commission for investigation of the situation with regard to military conflict between the RF and Chechen Republic Ichkeria, according to the regulations of the international law, which the Chechen party is ready to obey completely. We call upon the responsible politicians of the world not to make hasty statements and to be guided by the information on the Russian-Chechen relations from the independent sources, having rejected the unilateral information of the interested Russian party. Separate episodes of the Chechen party's resistance to the military campaign of Russia, although resulting in heave losses, unfortunately, cannot be assumed as a basis of evaluation of the real situation in occupied Chechnya. Unwarrantable cruelty, retaliatory repressions against the civilian population on the part of Russian special services and total indifference to the destiny of the Chechen people on the part of the international community increase the number of the supporters of Chechen Resistance not only among the Chechens, but also among the population of neighboring countries. We call for consideration of the question of ongoing war based on thorough analysis. We urge to put an end to the extermination of thousands of innocent people before the entire world! We call upon the peoples of the world, including the Russians, to stand up for protection of justice and law, we call upon them not to be the silent accomplices of the genocide committed by the Kremlin against the Chechen people. We are for peace and termination of the war in the Caucasus! Who is against it? On behalf of the Parliament of the Chechen Republic Ichkeria, Ahyad Idigov Plenipotentiary of the CRI Abroad June 22, 2004 http://chechenpress.com/news/2004/06/22/31.shtml [tr. by N.S.] |
