ODIHR observers refuse to monitor Russian parliamentary elections in Chechnya

ODIHR will not go to Chechnya to monitor the State Duma elections in the republic, deputy head of the ODIHR Election Observation Mission Robert Barry said on Monday. The decision was made due to problems with ensuring observers' safety, he said. Barry noted that people concerned about their security will be unable to efficiently perform their duties and travel wherever they want. In general, ODIHR observers are concerned about some aspects of the election campaign, he said.
