4 cops killed in shoot-out near Makhachkala MAKHACHKALA, September 6, 2003. (RIA Novosti correspondent Dekabr Beibutov) - According to the latest data, a shoot-out near Agachaul not far from Dagestan's capital Makhachkala left four policemen dead, law enforcement officers reported to RIA Novosti from the scene. The killed cops were two staffers and two trainees of the police patrol service. The Makhachkala interior affairs department said the armed clash took place during a special operation to detain criminals. The operation was conducted in connection with a car with weapons discovered in the settlement. Now the area is being combed in accordance with the 'Intercept' police plan. A helicopter is employed to look for the criminals. Dagestan is a Russian republic in the North Caucasus neighbouring on Chechnya. |
