| Caucasus Times 22 August 2003 Argun refugee camp fired upon Before midnight of August 20 unknown suspects fired on a camp for temporary displaced persons in Argun. The attack reportedly came at about midnight. "At first, the attackers tossed a grenade into the camp territory, which fortunately did not explode," a 43-year-old resident Ahiyad Bakayev told. "Then a car passed by the camp and someone inside the car started shooting at the camp. Thanks God, no one suffered in the gun attack." The people living in the camp appeared to be refugees who recently came back from tent camps for temporary displaced persons in Ingushetia. After shooting the attackers left the site. "Criminal case is open, under investigation," said an officer of Argun police department. "At the moment we are hunting down the vehicle, allegedly white Zhiguly car. I am sure the suspects will be detained very soon." So far, neither the police nor the camp residents can guess at the suspects motives. Ruslan Adayev, Chechnya Caucasus Times |
