Internet now available in Chechen capital Grozny
The Chechen capital Grozny has got access to the Internet, the chief
engineer of the state electricity company Electrosvyaz told ITAR-TASS
on Thursday. Any resident of the city having a telephone will
now be able to get connected to the World Wide Web. In order to
get access, it is necessary to sign an agreement and buy a user's
card. Telephone communication in Grozny has not yet been restored
in full. It is mainly state organizations and enterprises and
only a small portion of citizens who can enjoy it at the moment.
Their number will grow with the commissioning of two more telephone
exchanges, which will also increase the ranks of Internet users. As
of the present moment, there is only one Internet centre in the
capital of the restive republic, which was opened at Chechen State University.
Students from three higher educational establishments in Grozny can
work there free of charge.
