Nine Chechens abducted in Ingushetia
Nazran, RUSSIA. Members of an unidentified power structure took away
9 Chechens on September 15. The people had been living in a private
apartment close to the station in Nazran, the biggest town in Ingushetia.
The Chechens were taken away in two vehicles to an unknown destination.
According to the Chechen Council of Non-Governmental Organisations,
all the arrested are natives of the same area: namely the Shelkovsky
region of Chechnya. The young people had been working on private building
sites and had had no connection with any illegal groups.
On the same day, unknown persons in masks and fatigues picked up 40-year
old Mokhmad Saidayev, native of the Chechen village of Avturi in Shalinsky
province. Last year the man’s mentally-retarded teenage son was
murdered by Russian forces in Chechnya.
