09 September 2003 Documentaries about Chechnya to be shown in USA during Putin`s visit [No dateline as received] A festival of independent documentary films about Chechnya has been timed to coincide with Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to the USA and will be held in Washington and New York at the end of September, Denis Krivosheyev, a representative of Amnesty International, told Ekho Moskvy radio. Amnesty International, the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, Human Rights Watch and the Foundation for Civil Freedoms are the organizers of the festival. It is expected that nine films will be shown there including the film Babitsky's War made by the British Channel Four. This film won an Amnesty International award. Krivosheyev recalled that a similar festival was a success in London in June [2003]. It also was timed to coincide with Putin's visit to the country. The festival's organizers hope that it will have the same success in the USA. They are also reckoning to show independent documentaries about Chechnya in Moscow.
