First shoot, and then "amnesty"
Summary executions in
Chechnya
Early in the morning on 15 June 2003, two cars, "Zhiguli" VAZ-2109 and "Tyota"
were found severely damaged by firing not far from the village Berdakel of Grozny
region, Chechnya. In one of the car there was a corpse of a young man.
According to the eyewitnesses, the Russian servicemen blocked the locality and
nobody was allowed to come near the place of the accident. Later the cars and
the body of the killed man were taken in the unknown direction. According to
the people, the young man most likely had been killed a day before.
Russian servicemen blasted 5 houses in the village Kharachoy
On 16 2003, the Russian servicemen blasted 5 country houses in the village Kharachoy
of Vedeno region, Chechnya. The former tenants of the blown up houses left Chechnya
in the autumn of 1999, i.e. at the very beginning of military actions in the
Republic. According to the local residents, there was no reason for blowing
up the houses.
The Russian servicemen told that the abandoned houses had been used by the Chechen
fighters as covers from fire and for surprise attacks on the servicemen of Russian
forces. "That is why, - said one of the Russian officers, - we will continue
to blow up the abandoned houses".
"Mopping-up" operation in Vedeno Region
On 17 June 2003, the Russian servicemen carried out a mass retaliatory special
operation in the regional centre Vedeno and neighbouring village Shamil-kotar.
According to the natives, in the course of the "zachistka" (mopping-up) operation
the Russian servicemen robbed the local residents.
No information about the detainees or missing people is available.
A resident of Tovzeny detained
On 18 June 2003, at one of the checkpoints arranged in Vedeno region, Chechnya,
the Russian servicemen made a passenger of one of the regular-route bus to get
off the bus. According to the eyewitnesses, the young man was a resident of
the village Tovzeny. The servicemen checked his documents and without any accusation
detained him. The name of the detainee is not known.
The tyranny of the servicemen in Staropromislov district of the capital
On the night of 19 June 2003, in the Staropromislov district of the Chechen
capital Grozny, the Russian servicemen opened desultory fire. According to the
residents of the settlement Katayama, the firing lasted about an hour and people
had to stay in the basements to find cover from fire.
The local residents suppose that killing of 3 Russian servicemen by the unknown
people a day before gave the Russians cause for firing in the Staropromislov
district of Grozny.

On 18 June 2003, the unknown people shot down a car with three people on board:
