EU delegates visit Chechnya

The main objective of the visit to Chechnya is to obtain data on the situation in the republic

The PACE delegation is headed by Reino Paasilinna (Finland), Djiovanny Phava (Italy), Bart Stas (Belgium) and Ari Ostlander (Holland).

The Parliamentary delegation intends to have talks as well with the top Chechen authorities as with representatives of public and humanitarian organization of the republic. European guests have planned to visit Groznyy and several districts of Chechnya.

Besides, the official PACE delegation will have talks with Ingushetia's President Murat Ziyazikov and are going to discuss the conditions of Chechen refugees dwelling in tent camps in Ingushetia. The Parliamentary delegates meet with Russian and Chechen human rights activists and visit one of the Ingushetia's camps for internally displaced persons from Chechnya.

Izruddine Aldamov, a co-chairman of Nyyso (Fairness) the human rights organization, complained the delegates will be offered to visit as usual a tent settlement Bart (Consent) in Karabulak. That camp serves as a showy object to be demonstrated to every foreigners to come to the region since the camp is comparatively comfortable.

The humanitarian officials turned out to be misled by a show, considering Chechen refugees basic necessities conditions are fairly good. As to me, I would propose to organize a "sight tour" for European officials to let them see some desolate cattle farm structures, slums where people have to live in such unbearable conditions to give the PACE members a more precise picture what is going on here.

The PACE delegation visit to Chechnya and Ingushetia is expected to be over on June 18.

Comment: Our glorious EU delegates are in Chechnya again. They know exactly that a two or three day guided "sight tour" means nothing. Let us see if they will continue to accept this game or will definitely speak out about the truth. M.M.
