Ukrainian frontier guards detain 25 illegal immigrants from Chechnya
KIEV, July 11 /from RIA Novosti's Viktor Demidenko/ - Frontier guards in Ukraine
have detained twenty-five illegal Chechen immigrants, the nation's Frontier Committee
reports.
The Chechens were caught overnight near the Palad-Komarovtsy checkpoint as they
were trying to cross into Slovakia. They claimed they had entered Ukraine legally,
taking a train to Kiev. On reaching the town of Uzhgorod, they hired a man to
guide them across the border for a $2000 fee. He led them as far as the frontier
line, took the money, and went off.
All of the Chechen detainees will now be sent back to Chechnya. Their Ukrainian
guide is being searched for by the police.
