Russian Delegation on Chechen
Refugees Repatriation Visits Georgia
(Tbilisi, June 9 2003, Civil Georgia) - Russian delegation, led by the Deputy
Minister for Emergency Situations Yuri Brazhnikov arrived today in Tbilisi to
discuss with the Georgian authorities issue of repatriation Chechen refugees living
in Georgia's Pankisi gorge.
"We will discuss the humanitarian issues connected with the repatriation of the
Chechen refugees," Yuri Brazhnikov told the reporters upon his arrival in Tbilisi.
On June 10 delegation will visit Pankisi gorge and meet with the Chechen refuges.
Chechen refugees are cautious
regarding the repatriation, claiming that the security conditions in Chechnya
are still grave and demand resettlement in the third country.
Georgian authorities say they will agree on Chechens' repatriation only in case
of security guarantees from the Russian authorities.
