UN needs $33.7m for Chechnya
humanitarian programs
The United Nations has asked its donors for 33.7m dollars for humanitarian programs
in Chechnya and Ingushetia, Toby Lanzer, chief of the UN Office for Coordination
of Humanitarian Affairs, has said. He said the UN has already received 25 per
cent of this amount. In 2003, the UN will focus its work in Chechnya and Ingushetia
on food aid, supplying drinking water, assistance with housing, education and
health care, Lanzer said. Speaking about the Iraq crisis, Lanzer said the UN is
hoping for constructive cooperation with the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry
on this matter.
