Forced disappearance in the village Orekhovo

On January 28, 2003 at 3.00 a.m. having arrived in APCs, members of Russian law-enforcement structures in camouflage broke into the house ofTaus Murtazov, aged 30, who lives in the village Orekhovo of Achkhoi- Maratndistrict. They seized the man and drove him away in the unknown direction.Local law-enforcement officials denied their having been engaged in thisincident. It became known that Murtazov has never taken part in the socalled illegal armed formations and fought in the war.

Vedensky district

New data about the consequences of shelling in the village Neftyanka As it has already been reported (press-release No. 351) on January 26-27,2003 the village Neftyanka of Vedensky district was subject to shelling on the side of one of the federal divisions dislocated nearby. We publish new information about victims and damage. Salman Eshiev,  aged 50, was seriously wounded because of the direct shellhit in his house. The man's daughter Malika got less heavy wounds. Salman's house is practically destroyed - the shell breached the roof, the walls, thewindows and the doors. Albek Bakashev (60 years old) was wounded in the result of shell explosionin the yard of his house. The building was also partly destroyed - thewindows and the doors were broken.  Kidnapping in the village Neftyanka On January 27, 2003 at daytime in the village  Neftyanka of Vedenskydistrict GRU (general investigation department) members of Russian armedforces broke into Shamil Khabusiev's (45 years old) house and drove himaway. Later there came unconfirmed information that he is still in thedistrict and soon would be released. However, nothing has been heard fromthe detained yet. His relatives appealed to law-enforcement structures and otherinstitutions demanding to search  the  missing man. They also added thatShamil, being lame in the leg because of the injury he got in youth, hasnever taken part in military operations.

On the highway Baku-Rostov some discharged in 2002 block posts are beingrestored. For instance, Russian soldiers erect new wooden block post nearthe village Assinovskaya.
