For already the second running week Russian federal troops have been shelling
villages in Vedeno region, Chechnya, using various types of weapons, including
machine-guns and grenade launchers. Fearing stray bullets, locals have been hiding
in basements all this time. On February 17, a resident of Vedeno village,
Musa Murtazaliev, was severely wounded. When his fellow villages attempted to
help him, the military opened fire on the road on which the wounded was lying.
Several Vedeno residents were injured as a result of shell explosions nearby their
homes. Musa Murtazaliev received a fragmentation wound while he was heading home.
He fell on the ground. As he was unable to walk on his own, his fellow villagers
tried to get closer to him but were immediately targeted by Russian soldiers.
Eventually, one of the Chechens managed to crawl up to Murtazaliev and, with the
help of a rope, to drag him away from the road. He was given first aid, and his
life is now out of danger. Vedeno locals believe that the soldiers were drunk.
