OSCE to send its monitors to Chechen referendum

MOSCOW. March 19 (Interfax) - The Bureau for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organizations for Security and Cooperation in Europe will send its officials to monitor the upcoming constitutional referendum in Chechnya.
Alexander Veshnyakov, chairman of the Russian Central Elections Commission, told Interfax that more than twenty observers representing different foreign countries and international organizations have already obtained accreditation to monitor the March 23 referendum.
Veshnyakov noted that monitors are expected from the League of Arab Nations, the Islamic Conference organization, the CIS Executive Committee, as well as from Malaysia, Egypt and other countries.
