The French medical charity "Medecins sans Frontieres"
("Doctors Without Borders") released a statement on March 8 accusing
the Russian government of failing to make serious efforts to rescue its employee,
Arjan Erkel, who was kidnapped last August in Dagestan. "Seven months after
his abduction, Russia's federal
authorities are still incapable of providing the least information about the
motives or identity of his captors, or make the slightest progress in this case,"
the group said. "As of now, Russian authorities have not demonstrated the
political will necessary to resolve this case. We demand that they achieve Arjan's
immediate
release and take up their responsibility to guarantee the security of civilians
and humanitarian workers."
