CP: Meeting of protest in Grozny

On 5 March 2003, an action of protest of the residents of Grozny against the atrocities and violence of the Russian servicemen was held in the Chechen capital. About 200 participants in the action, mainly the women, required of the authorities to find and return their sons missing as a result of retaliatory operations known as "zachistki" and night raids of the Russian soldiers.

In the course of the meeting held in the very centre of Grozny, near the occupants' checkpoint # 23, at about 16:00, an armored car with Russian servicemen on board, deliberately drove into a "Volga" car, in which there were four people, including one woman. Luckily, the passengers of the "Volga" were not injured. According to the eye-witnesses, the Russians driving the armored car were drunk.
