The political commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of
Europe will fix a new rapporteur on the Chechen republic at its March 5
session. It will be gathered in Paris, Russian chief delegate at PACE Leonid
Slutsky, deputy chairman of the State Duma international committee, has
told reporters.
On Thursday Lord Judd tendered his resignation as the rapporteur on Chechnya
and the PACE member responsible for the situation in Chechnya. He said the motive
was his explanation as to why there were no conditions for a referendum
in Chechnya lacked the need to delay it. Lord Judd said he was so much concerned
with Chechnya problems at the Wednesday session of the political commission
that he did not notice the wording of a passage he did not like.
