rejects Russia's proposals on draft Chechnya resolution

STRASBOURG. Jan 28 (Interfax) - The PACE political commission in charge
of preparing a draft resolution on the situation in the Chechen Republic
has rejected practically all the basic amendments to this document proposed
by the Russian delegation, a source in the Russian delegation told Interfax
on Tuesday. One of the main proposals made by the Russian delegation was that
the recommendation to reschedule the referendum in Chechnya be removed from
the text of the document. The only amendment the commission did not
reject is Lord Judd's statement, according to which Chechen refugees are
forced to return to Chechnya from Ingushetia, which has been removed from
the text. "It's a lie, and it is so obvious that the political commission
could not but honor our request," the source said
