MOSCOW. Jan 10 (Interfax) -
Over 2,000 people were killed in 2002 as a result of crimes and incidents
in the Russian armed forces. "The actual number of victims slightly exceeds
2,000. As many as 1,200 were killed in incidents alone. This refers to all
troops, including Defense Ministry, Border, Interior and Emergency Situations
Ministry troops," Deputy Prosecutor General and Chief Military Prosecutor
Alexander Savenkov said at a press conference at the Interfax main office
on Friday. "Eight officers were killed while on duty last year. Not all of
them were killed by their subordinates," Savenkov said.
