Georgian human rights defenders call the arrests of Chechens "the year of 37".

Georgian human right defender Nana Devdariani said that it was necessary to give response to the power ministers of the republic in connection with the mass detentions of Chechens carried out on Saturday in Tbilisi, reports the Georgian information agency "Inter- Press".

Devdariani expressed her dismay with the actions of power structures and raised a question about the responsibility of the ministers of internal affairs and state security of the Georgia with the consideration of committee on juridical questions of the Georgian parliament.

As the human rights defender stated, detention of Chechens and conduct of the procedure of taking their finger prints and photographing without an appropriate decision of law court, and also intrusion into particular houses and the non-admission of attorneys during the arrest, these are illegal actions, for which the ministers must bear responsibility.

In turn, the manager by the Chechen-Ingush division of the NGO "Caucasian house" Meka Khangoshvili stated in her interview to "Inter-Press" that is possible to compare this joint special- operation of MVD and MGB of Georgia with repressions in 30's.

"This conduct, within the framework of today's operation, like photographing and fingerprinting of Chechen citizens is completely inadmissible. These inhumane actions of the police are similar to repression from the year of 37 ", - she stated.

In the opinion of Khangoshvili, it cannot be sure that the Georgian procuratorship subsequently will not send these photographs and fingerprints to Russia, where "in the attitude towards detained persons their cases will be cooked and [Russia] will demand their extraditions".

Meanwhile Georgian political analyst Ramaz Klimiashvili connects the detentions of Chechens in Tbilisi with the recent statement of the representative of Chechen separatists Movladi Udugov, that Georgia will have "serious problems" in the case of extradition of those three Chechen boyeviks, that's what Russia demands. According to the analyst, after the extradition of five Chechens to Russia some Chechens vowed, that they will cruelly take vengeance for this upon the government of Georgia and personally on the general prosecutor. "To avoid fulfilling of these threats Georgian law enforcing organs conducted preventive measures", stated Klimiashvili to the agency "Inter-Press". However, in spite of this, he does not exclude some "acts of retribution" from the side of Chechens.

The mass detentions of Chechen families, which live in Tbilisi, began in the past night. The were hauled to police stations, where they were photographed and their finger prints were taken. In the MVD of Georgia they assert that this was done for establishing of identity and checking out the registration, after that Chechens were released. These carried out measures by the Georgian power departments were called special-operations to fight with crime.
