In the village Mesker-Yurt federal forces started a scaled operation. On November 28, 2002 at 7.00 a.m. in the village Mesker-Yurt of Shali district federal forces started a new massed military operation. A great number of troops and armored machinery totally blockaded the settlement. Tanks and APCs came into the village and took control of crossroads. At the beginning of the operation a few residents managed to drive out from the village, however, at present civilians are not permitted neither to depart nor to arrive at the settlement. Those who succeeded to escape from Mesker-Yurt said that panic reigns in the village because residents are afraid of new punitive operations. Last great "zachistka" in Mesker-Yurt lasted from May 21 to June 11, 2002. In the course of this action at least 25 people were killed and 20 were kidnapped (they are still considered to be missing).
